How Our Fleet Monitoring Works
Brightree installs sensors and hardware directly on ships to monitor their fuel usage, engine condition, GPS location, and more — all in real time. We have been doing this since 2011 in Singapore, working with all kinds of vessels: small harbour boats, tugboats, and larger offshore support ships.
Every 30 seconds, the onboard system captures readings and sends them back to shore — through the mobile network when the ship is nearby, or via Starlink satellite when further out at sea. Fleet managers can log in to the Brightseed website to see everything live, and the system automatically sends a summary email every day.
Core Hardware
The main box we install on the ship. Tracks how much fuel the engines and generators are using, and sends that data back to shore.
Precision meters fitted to the fuel pipes on both sides of the engine. It measures exactly how much fuel is flowing through the fuel pipe

E-Logging System
Records ship data like temperature, fuel levels, and engine readings automatically every 30 seconds. Fleet owners can download the full log as an Excel file, and the system sends a summary email every single day.
Engine Condition Monitoring
Keeps an eye on how hard the engine is working — tracking its spin speed (RPM) and how many hours it has been running. Works with both older mechanical engines and newer digital ones.
Fuel Consumption Monitoring
Uses precision flow meters to measure exactly how much fuel each engine and generator is burning at any moment. Shows flow rate, density, and temperature — so owners can quickly spot if something is off.
Engine Vibration Monitoring
Small sensors on the engine detect unusual shaking or vibrations. Catching this early matters — it often signals a problem forming before it turns into a costly breakdown in the middle of the sea.
Wireless RF Monitoring
Checks that the sensors and devices onboard are communicating properly and sending data out — whether through a mobile connection near shore or via satellite link further out.
GPS Vessel Tracking
Shows the exact location of every vessel on a map, updated live. Also records the ship's speed, direction, and distance travelled — so you always know where each vessel is and what it's doing.
CCTV Monitoring
Live camera feeds from the vessel, streamed to shore so managers can see what is happening onboard from anywhere. Built to work even with the limited internet speeds available at sea via satellite.
